I love asking for feedback from the wonderful people who attend (via zoom) my yoga classes. Getting everyone's own perspective and experience of asanas (postures) and breathing techniques (pranayama) can be so varied and surprising.
We sometimes practice the pranayama technique called NADA SHODANA, or ALTERNATE NOSTRIL BREATH, this is a wonderfully harmonising pranayama that can be used by absolute beginners to very advanced practitioners in different guises. Its a good technique for inducing calm, so if you are feel quick of breath, stressed, or shallow in breath, then using this technique will help you slow down, take deeper slower breaths and bring your breath into a rhythm, as its only focussing on the timing/rhythm of the inhale and exhale, which then calms the mind and body and can also prepare you for meditation, some simple out from a stressful situation, or to even help you sleep. Here is some feedback from one of my long standing regulars; "I always enjoy Maureen's yoga class but find the relaxation session at the end very difficult as my busy mind constantly wanders from one thing to another. However, recently we started doing alternate nostril breathing", directed by Maureen, and by focusing on my breaths, I actually managed to relax and think of nothing at all for over a minute, a major achievement for me. I now use the breathing techniques to stop my mind wandering and can focus on other things. The breathing techniques have proven very beneficial in recent weeks. I have a phobia of having my mouth and nose covered, but by focusing on my breaths and not the mask, using the breathing techniques taught, I manage to wear a face covering when required which has enabled me to visit various indoor places. Thanks Maureen. I would recommend trying out the yoga classes, not just for the breathing but for the many benefits that yoga gives". If you would to try out this wonderful calming breathing technique, then join us in a class.
